Frequently Asked Questions
Which areas do you cover?
I’m based in Brackley, Northamptonshire, but I’m happy to travel across the UK and beyond for your wedding. I frequently work in areas such as London, Oxfordshire, the Cotswolds, Buckinghamshire, the Midlands, Birmingham, Worcestershire, Surrey, and Gloucestershire.
Do you provide makeup and hair for destination weddings?
Yes, I love working abroad and would be thrilled to travel internationally for your destination wedding.
What skincare, make-up and hair products do you use?
I use a wide range of luxury products, mainly designer brands with a few trusted high street favourites. My go-to brands include Tom Ford Beauty, Pat McGrath Labs, Chanel, Dior Beauty, Lancome, Anastasia Beverly Hills, Charlotte Tilbury, NARS, MAC Cosmetics, and Bobbi Brown. For skincare Im a big fan of 111-skin masks, Trinny London and Tatcha but I have products for all skin types. I’m working towards making my kit as ethical and cruelty-free as possible while maintaining high standards. For hair, I prefer GHD, Cloud Nine, Bumble & Bumble, Sam McKnight and Schwarzkopf styling products. I have experience styling afro and curly hair textures, and my kit includes products specifically for these styles.
Can I book for wedding makeup and hair without a trial?
A makeup and hair trial for the bride is essential. Everyone’s skin and hair is unique, and a trial allows us to identify any potential issues in advance. Just as in the film industry, where we do multiple tests to perfect an actor’s look, we want to make sure everything is flawless for your big day. A trial can save hours of time on the wedding morning, prevent last-minute stress and ensure your skin and hair are looking their best. If your wedding party have any concerns regarding allergies or skin sensitivities, I would highly recommend a trial for them too.
How long does a make-up and hair trial last?
A typical bridal makeup and hair trial lasts around three hours, but I don’t set strict time limits. For makeup or hair the trial will last approximately 1-2 hours. We’ll begin by discussing your preferences, your wedding theme and colours, and of course, your dress! Followed by testing the makeup and hairstyle. I’ll ensure you’re completely happy with the results before wrapping up.
What do you charge for wedding makeup and hair?
If you love my work and feel I could be the right makeup and hair artist for your wedding, please complete the booking request form on the Contact page. Alternatively you can send an email to info@sallycrouch.co.uk and with details about your wedding and we can have a chat.
Where will my trial be held?
Trials are held in a location of your choice. Travel charges may apply. If you would rather visit me in Brackley that can also be arranged.
I love this hairstyle I found but I’m not sure my hair is long enough or thick enough?
Not to worry! Hairstyles can often be adapted to suit your hair type. We can also use extensions, hair pieces, padding, colour sprays, or hair fibers to achieve the look you want. I have plenty of techniques to help create your ideal style.
Will my make-up and hair last all day?
Absolutely. I encourage brides to wear the makeup after the trial to see how it holds up. This allows us to troubleshoot any issues ahead of time. On the big day, your makeup will last from morning through to the evening. You might only need to touch up your lipstick and use a bit of powder or blotting papers if your skin tends to get oily, particularly in the hot summer season.
I hardly ever wear makeup and want very little for my wedding. Do I still need a trial?
Yes. Especially if you’re after a natural look. What one person considers "natural" can vary significantly. Makeup subtly enhances light and shade, which can change your features in ways you might not expect. Similarly, terms like ‘smokey eye’ can mean different things to different people. A trial ensures you don’t have any unknown allergies, we’re both on the same page and that you’re comfortable with the final look.
What happens if you are sick or can’t make it to do my makeup and hair on the wedding day?
In 16 years, I have only missed one wedding. On that occasion, I had completed the trial and taken detailed notes and photos. I arranged for one of my trusted colleagues to step in, using my kit to ensure the same products were used. I collaborate with a talented network of professionals, particularly from the film industry, who are accustomed to last-minute changes. It would take a serious crisis for me to miss your special day, but rest assured, I have reliable backup options if necessary.
